New hair, new diy

Cutting of something like 15 cm of my hair makes me feel just about 5 kilos lighter. I usually go darker for fall, but this time I listened to the hairdresser and went blond. Not sure if it's quite me, but that's ok cause I'm a person for change. In Norwegian we have this saying "forandring fryder", which means something like change is joyful. I love that saying, change is good:)

Bought some stretchy lace fabric and made these leggings. I'm sick of the ordinary black leggings, and the stores don't have any cool ones (that I can afford). So now I'm on a make leggings mission. I have tons of leggings ideas to put to life. I have tons of ideas for clothes to make in general, but sewing leggings are just easy enough not to cost me much energy. Easy and fun. If yu want to make your own leggings, the easyest way to do so is to cut open the seems on a old one that fits you, and use the pieces as apattern. That way you know it will fit you, and you don't have to use time on pattermaking.

I also made this scarf some time ago. Really easy too:) This is just my favourite silk fabric that I've sewn the edges by hand.

Designed by Gabrielle Chanel

After seeing the movie I've been totally coco fanatic! Haha.. Good thing I have this great book of costume history. Found these pictures of Gabrielles designs. Above you see the cardigan set, and the LBD (1928). She did it first. Also adore the fine details on the nude silk dress. Beauty never goes out of style, huh?
Can you imagine how cool it would be to own a original piece of clothing by Gabrielle Chanel?

My style: Sunday style

Sunday is Ruby's day. We spend serious quality time together on Sundays. We usually go to the sea, or the forest, but I can't let her run loose these days (women problem days), so we just hang around town instead. She doesn't mind, she loves the city. Many interesting smells, and fun people and dogs to meet.
Wearing my new jeans, the ones I found yesterday for a cheap, cheap price. Liking them too.
Have had a busy and kinda stressful week, so it's been good to relax with my favourite girl today.
Hope you had a nice and easy Sunday!

Wearing jeans from Cubus (only 199 kr, woohooo!), jacket from H&M trend, scarf from Zara, shirt from Voice, boots from Din Sko.

Good Saturday

A good Saturday. Went to this lovely old movie theatre and saw Coco avant Chanel. Finally. It was really cool, we had red wine and everything. And I just loved, loved, loved the movie! If you haven't seen it allready, you must. For me I guess it was a double dose of joy, since I of course admire Chanel herself, but I also adore Audrey Tautou, who plays her.
I was so inspired by the film, now I only want to wear classic, elegant, garcon style clothes. Haha, I swear, I'm very easily influenced. Not only that, it's always good to get inspired by strong women. She was so strong. And she did her own thing.
I want to be like that. Who doesn't..

Also had a little glimpse of shopping joy earlier at the day. You see, the thing is I'm so broke. Seriously. And I'm saving money for something important. Short story: I'm going mental. I have no clothes. Just a closet full of crap. That's how it feels. I really need to change out my whole wardrobe, and it's so frustrating that I can't. So my new hobby is to hunt down cheap finds. But not only cheap finds, it must be treausures. As some of you already know: I'm on a mission. And to get to my goal I'm using ebay, vintage stores, flea markets, my sewing machine, H&M, Zara and anything I can think of that doesn't cost much. So I got quite excited when I found a nice pair of black, slim jeans with sort of a high waist and even my right lenght for the price of nothing today. Will post tomorrow.

Anyway, that's what I wanted to tell you. Had a good Saturday, and hope you had one too:)

Speaking of old collections..

While reminiscing about the good ol' days..hehe.. Just had to take a look at the Viktor & Rolf fall 2001 collection. Again. How incredible isn't this one, huh? Also one of those unforgettable collections, of course the black painted people has something to do with that. I remember the first time I saw it, I almost got a little scared. And you know I like scaryness when it's beautiful;)

Collection I never forgot

Hussein Chalayan ss 2003.
I was completely obsessed with the holes, openings and circular lines in this collection.
It's a a few years ago, but some of these looks has been engraved in my memory. When I studied fashion design, Chalayan was one of the designers I admired the most. I was very facinated by avant garde designers, and this Chalayan collection was one of the things that opened my eyes that time. It shows a way of thinking outside the box, but still with simple undertones. For me it looks like it was all inspired by one single tank, but he has managed to get unique lines out of it. Sometimes when you're supposed to be creative, it's easy to get stuck in well known patterns. I think that to make something beautiful aren't the most difficult, but to make interesting things demands real skills. So now, six years later I still think that these holes are pretty inspiring.

Looking at old colletions are kinda fun, but the photos are unfortunatly often in bad quality..

Never tell

"Never tell" editorial from Zoo Magazine no 24 09.
The German Zoo Magazine is starting to become one of my favourites, they always have gorgeous editorials. I really like their layout and arty ways, it's one of those (few?) mags that stands out.
Isn't this editorial particularly beautiful?

My style: urban comfort

I had two very talented guys taking these photos, and I really like how they turned out.
Taken in my city, the place I love and hate, Oslo. There are some very ugly things in this town, but then again, there's beauty here too.
Sometimes I'm irritaded about the way they build here, it's like they have no plan, just throw up tall houses wherever there's a free meter. In between the madness there's old houses, gorgeous architecture and pretty streets. And that's what I like about it, the contrasts.
I want to dress that way too, with personality, different textures and a bit of unexpected. Sometimes I just don't care, and throw on whatever. But other times I feel light, and try to capture it.

My figurine for Anywho

The cool girls behind Anywho did a contest, where the readers were supposed to do a little styling set featuring a Monies necklace. Such a cool necklace it is, and it was even the price, so I thought I'd give it a shot. Did this drawing, and even though I was a bit late with my subission they were kind enough to post my sketch on their blog.

Oh, almost forgot: The figurine is wearing a Monies necklace, Ann Demeuelmeester ss 09 dress , cycleshorts and Rodarte ss 10 shoes.

(un)fashion

Lately I've been sick of fashion magazines. No, I'm not lying. Suddenly they all look the same to me. But I'm sure my love for those glossies will come back soon. Meanwhile I'm going other places to get inspired. Like in my book shelf. Redescovered this book called (un)FASHION, and remembered how much I love this one. I bought it when I was in fashion school, to get some ethnic inspiration, and it gave me tons of ideas back then. Now it gives me new ideas, but most of all it''s quite fun to look at. The book is made by Tibor + Maira Kalman, and is full of beautiful images of people from around the world.
